Making Paper Flowers

Hi everyone,

Here's a nice and pretty tutorial from Conni... she's a paper crafter from Switzerland and does some amazing cards, among other things ;-) So make sure to visit her -->blog<-- for more inspiration!

Now, for her tutorial: Flowers Adorn...

First, I stamp a few flowers (eg Stampendous / Q131 Ruffled Blcom)

on thicker paper (it comes with already augestanzten flowers)

then treated with a stamped VersaMark

then sprinkle embossing powder

then heat emboss (I have no Hot Gun, so I used a toaster tuts)

It should look something like this:

Now, with a flower punch

Punch!

Then distress the edges

Using a mat and a stylus, turn the flower backside and press

Ready!

"Faux Postages" is French and means fake postage stamps. They look great on cards and layouts! Here's what you need:

The procedure:

  1. Print page 1 or page 3 on your white paper. Page 1 is for blank postage stamps, page 3 has the common German value "55" printed on each stamp.

  2. Print page 2 on a transparency because that's what you'll turn into your stencil. If you don't have that option, some plain paper will do.

  3. Using a ruler and a cutter, cut out one of the grey rectangles (image 1). Crop the rest of the sheet.

  4. Place it accurately on your stamp template and color your stamp's background (image 2 & 3).

  5. Using some scratch paper and a kleenex, you can easily clean the stencil - in case you printed it on a transpareny (image 4).

  6. When the background has dried, you can use the stencil to stamp the stamp's motive (image 5).

  7. Let it dry (image 6).

  8. Crop the faux postages using a ruler, or do it freehand or with scalloped scissors -whatever you prefer (image 7).

  9. Great! (image 8).

  10. Now you can create a card (image 9). As you can see, I decided to stamp the stamps' value on the corners. You might add little words instead (Love, Friend, Fun, Hug...). Have fun!

  11. If you do, please let me know - I'd love to see your creations!

    Thanks for reading!

APRIL IN PARIS

Who remembers the songs "April in Paris" and "I love Paris in the Springtime"?

I don't know why, but there just seems to be something especially exotic and romantic about Paris... particularly at this time of year. Paris, the City of Lovers...

So here's my take on it.

THE POSTCARD:

  • The stamped background postoid text and the Eiffel Tower are both from Tim Holtz's I See Paris sheet.
  • The postcard is a natural, flecked, handmade paper.
  • The background was stamped in Ranger Archival ink in Sepia, and the Eiffel Tower in Brilliance Graphite Black onto white linen-effect cardstock.
  • Tear round the Eiffel Tower image and colour it Direct-To-Paper style, using Versacolour pigment inks in Old Rose & Opera Pink, with a touch of Sky Blue.
  • The image is from a photo in my private collection. If she isn't French, then she certainly looks it!
  • Both Eiffel Tower and photo are layered over torn vintage French text from an old dictionary.
  • I used a clear alphabet to stamp out April in Paris, using Ranger's Sepia archival ink again, and drew over the letters by hand with a red glitter pen. I also coloured in the lady's lipstick with the red glitter pen.
  • Her cheeks were coloured with a cottonwool bud (carefully) with the Old Rose pigment ink.
  • Finally, I drew over the lips with Ranger's Glossy Accents, to really make the lipstick "pop".
THE TAG:

  • Crumple a manilla tag then smooth it out again. Do this a couple of times.
  • Swipe the tag with Distress ink in Mahogany and spritz a couple of times with clear water, so that the ink runs.
  • Allow to dry naturally, or hurry it up with a heat gun.
  • Flatten with an iron (on Dry setting) if you hate the creases.
  • Stamp the Eiffel Tower in Ranger Archival Sepia ink and tear around the image.
  • Use a cottonwool bud to tint the tower with a touch of Old Rose Versacolour ink.
  • Scuff round the torn edges of the image with Distress ink in Black Soot.
  • Stamp the alphabet as described above and draw over the letters with Glossy Accents.
  • Tint cheeks & lips as above.
Two easy-peasy and FAST projects for when you're in a hurry. These can both be done as a production run (I made around 20 postcards for a swap I was in). I like doing the tags to give away as bookmarks (you can never have too many bookmarks) and must have made around 10 or so of these as well.

EASY CARD FOR A MAN

A nice, easy monochrome image - men are always difficult to stamp for, and I think are often frightened of colour!

This card works well for birthdays, anniversarys (I made it for Father's Day last year - and my poor husband will probably be given it again this year, lol).

With Love
copyright Susie Jefferson at 1stFloorFlat and BladeRubberStamps

How I did it:
  • I used just one inkpad throughout: Brilliance ink in Starlite Black.
  • The background is the huge trefoil stamp (stamped twice onto white card) from the Weathered Textiles sheet by Tim Holtz.
  • The main image is Classic Couple from Stampsmith (also stamped onto white card) then torn round 3 of the edges and ink rubbed on straight from the pad.
  • I punched two holes at top and bottom left-hand side and threaded fibres through, then used double-sided tape to mount the piece to the background.
  • The text is made up from an unmounted ransom-style alphabet set.
I hope you enjoy my very first project for Inspirational!

Making a Glossy Card

Hi everyone!

Here's a nice and fun technique you can make using your stamping supplies. To make this project, you will need:

  • Cardstock in black, white, orange, and green
  • Adhesives & dimensionals
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Versamark
  • Clear Embossing Powder
  • Heat Gun
  • Embellishments
Now let's start:

1.) First off you will need to download this pattern-->Halloween Fun<--. Cut out all pieces according to the instructions given EXCEPT FOR THE PUMPKIN.

2.) For the pumpkin I grabbed a pencil and drew the shape in one side of the orange cardstock and then folded the orange cardstock in half and cut out my shape, leaving the left side untouched. See the pic!

You should now have this:

3.) Now for the fun part :) Grab the black kitty shape and with the Versamark damp the entire shape (top only).

4.) Spread clear embossing powder on top, making sure it covers the shape entirely.

5.) With the heat gun melt the embossing powder on the shape.

Repeat steps #3, #4 & #5 for the remaining black pieces.

Nice technique, ha? And it looks gorgeous!

6.) While your shapes are cooling down, grab the pumpkin and decorate it. I chalked and stitched the edges. I also added a Prima leaf on top of it, but of course you can add whatever you like :)

7.) Adhere dimensionals on the back of your pumpkin and center it on top of the black cat shape.

8.) Now finish your card by adding eyes and nose to the cat and its paws. I used my circle punches (small & 1/4 size punches) to create the eyes... even better, you can add those wiggly eyes for a funner look.

And we are done! Here's how it should look on the inside:
