Christmas Ribbon Rosette from Craft Fairy

Here I am again with another flower project from Craft Fairy

Have you noticed how rosettes of all shapes and sizes are becoming high fashion itmas and are being worn by so many people, crafty and otherwise? This is why I've chosen to do my latest project of a ribbon rosette and I've made it in Christmas colours so that it is in time for the coming holidays.

So let's get on with it. You will need:

16mm red with green dots grosgrain ribbon. This should be cut into 4 x 15cm lengths.

16mm willow green grosgrain ribbon cut into 6 x 10cm lengths

1 piece of satin edged chiffon in a 30 cm length. No need to cut this in to short pieces.

1 red button

1 length of strong green thread.

1 strong needle. I know that I've said this before, but when you have to sew through several layers of grosgrain you will not be able to manage with a thin needle. A thimble is also a good extra to have.

Thread your needle and lay out the cut lengths of willow grosgrain as shown.

Secure the legths of ribbon in the centre with a couple of stitches to stop them moving when you sew the next layers. Your needle should now be on the right side of the work.

Take one of the 15cm strips, form a loop and center the bottom of the loop on the underneath as shown in the image. The edges should overlap about 1cm. Push the needle up through the bottom of the loop, trying to get as closely centered both lengthwise and width wise as you can.

Pull first loop down the thread to sit on top of the bottom ribbons, then repeat process for remaining 3 loops. When all are threaded, arrange them so they are evenly spaced in a nice circular arrangement. As you will see below.

Nearly there.

Now concertina fold the satin edged chiffon so that the folds are slightly narrower than the ones below and thread the needle up through the centre. Fan the folds out and stitch into place. It is at this point that you will be glad that you have a strong needle. Sew the button into the centre of the rosette.

Last of all you will need to trim the bottom layer of ribbon

on a slant. Then seal the edges with the flame of a tea light, This is by far the safest way to do it. The open flame of the gas hob is a bit too erractic. Finished.

Edible spooky eyes for Halloween

Halloween is coming along fast, so the communal library organized a midnight hike (well, actually it was between 7 and 9 pm) for kids. My DH and I are volunteer readers, so we had much fun reading ghost stories in the dark. A spooky hut in the woods was the perfect place for the 14 kids (plus 6 adults)... We thought that brave kids need something yummy to eat. I made skull-shaped cookies and spooky eyes. I put them in a transparent box which looked extra spooky in the beam of our torches...

The eyes are made with round sweets ("Nimm 2 Soft" in Germany - somebody told me they used Laffy Taffy or Starburst, maybe that helps).

You need:

Round, soft sweets

toothpicks

frosting (mix powdered sugar with a little lemon juice)

food coloring

a piece of styrofoam

Handmade Poinsettia Ribbon Flower Tutorial

Do you like it? I really hope that you do as I have a tutorial ready for you. This and many other ribon flower tutorials are also to be found on my Craft Fairy Designs Blog.

The ribbons are available on Craft Fairy and the beads are from my stash.

If you want to make one then all that you have to do is get the follwing ready to play with.

a needle

thread

16mm single faced scarlet ribbon

16mm single faced teal ribbon

scissors

measuring tape.

Start by cutting 5, 7cm pieces of scarlet ribbon and 5, 5cm pieces.

Fold a 7cm piece in half and pinch. Where the pinches are sew together as shown.

Below you will see the two stages together so I hope that this helps.

Now fold the petal on the right side and you will have a pointed petal. If you want really sharp points then you can iron it flat. Repeat with all five petals and lay out side by side on your work space.

Sew along the edge of all of the petals as seen.

Pull the thread tight and the petals will form a circle.

Now repeat the above with 5cm pieces of ribbon and you will get a smaller flower.

Place one flower on top of the other and sew together.

Sew some gold beads to the centre and sew two pieces of teal ribbon to the back for the completed flower.

Vintage Twisted Ribbon Roses

Hello everyone, It's me, Craft Fairy with you again for another ribbon flower tutorial. This and lots more are avilable on my Craft Fairy Designs blog. I hope that you will come over and visit.

I've noticed that these twisted roses are appearing on many cards and sewing projects lately so I thought that I would bring you all a project and a video on how to do them. I've used fairly bright, well, very bright ribbon to make them as they can be shabby chic, but they can also be vivid and fashionable.

What You’ll Need:

Ribbon – at least 16mm wide

The one that I used here is the 23mm wide swiss dot grosgrain.

16mm satin ribbon in willow

a needle and thread

Cut a length of ribbon, about 30 to 45cm long. The longer (and wider) your ribbon, the larger your rose will be.
Tie a knot at one end of the ribbon, this will be the center of the rose.

Knot the end of the thread and secure it to the base of the knot.

Start twisting your ribbon and stitch it into place around the knot.

Carry on twisting the ribbon and sew it onto the rose that is developing.
Below is what it should look like from the front at this stage.
Keep on twisting and sewing until you have the size of rose that you want.

Once all the ribbon is wound up and secured, tuck the ends underneath and sew them into place with a few small stitchesKnot your thread, trim it, and you’re done
Now for the leaves. They are really simple too.

Take a length of the green satin ribbon and sew along one edge as shown. The longer the length the bigger the leaf. As a rule of thumb, your ribbon should be about two and a half times the width of the finished rose.
Pull the thread gently until you have gathered the ribbon as shown below.Stitch the ribbon together along the middle and then stitch it to the back of your rose and there you have it. Now you can make a card or far better brighten up a jumper or a hat.

Well, the last post on ribbon flowers seems to have gone down really well, so, I've decided to post another type of ribbon flower for you all. Just in case you all think that I can't use anything other than pink, I've made this one in blue.

I did stoop to pink for the thread that I used to gather the ribbon. I did this for a purpose though as it is easier to see in the photographs.

Decide on the number of petals that you want. I used 5. The more petals, the bigger the hole that will be left in the middle to cover up with a button or a stamen of some sort. You'll see what I mean as we progress.If you decide on 5 petals than the length of ribbon used to make each petal should be 2 1/2 times the width of the ribbon. Yes maths!
Made simple
Ribbon = 16mm
Length required for each petal = 40mm
5 petals = 200mm or 20 cm.
Leave an extra cm or 2 for the folding over of the edges. You can always cut off any excess but you can't get it if it isn't there.
So you will need a piece of 16mm ribbon that is about 22 cm long.

Place the ribbon on the table in front of you. The side furthest from you is the inner edge and the one closes to you is the outer edge of the flower.
Mark the ribbon into sections on the inner edge. On a 16mm ribbon these ehould be every 40mm.
Using a running stitch sew along the ribbon as shown in the photograph. Remember to loop the thread over the outer edge of the ribbon when you get to the top of each section. Sew your 5 sections. End with the thread at the outer edge of the ribbon.

Start to pull the thread. You will see the ribbon curl up in front of you. Don't panic. Keep on pulling gently until the petals emerge. The reason for looping the thread over the ribbon is that it pulls the petal into the centre nicely.

You will end up with this curly mess that you see below. Tease it out and you will see the petals. Make sure that the thread is pulled as tightly as possibe without breaking the thread so that the gap in the center is as small as possible. The two inner edges of the flower should be brought together and stitched to hold them in place.

Turn the raw wdges to the back of the flower and stitch in place. Sew a button into the center to cover the unsightly bit.

Folded Ribbon Rose Tutorial

I seem to be on a roll at the moment and I've been adding tutorials galore on my Craft Fairy Designs blog so I thought that I would add one here too.

You will need the shocking pink 23mm wide grosgrain for this and I used the swiss dot one as I wanted to have the contrast between the plain side and the dotty side. You can make a plain one if you want to but this looks kind of cute.

You will need to start by rolling a short section of the ribbon and securing it with a couple of stitches. Stitching is better than gluing as it will held in place and then, if you want to put it on a garment you can wash it without being afraid that it will fall apart. This roll will be your bud.

Next fold the ribbon at a 90 degree angle to the roll as shown below.Roll the ribbon around the central bud until you get to the end of the folded part. It will be obvious when you do it. Secure the bottom with a couple of stitches. ,Fold and roll again and again. See below. Make sure to put in a couple of stitches as you go.Below is what your rose should look like after you have folded a few times.Now look at the back and you will see how this is coming along, and where to put the stitching. Basically you keep on going until you have as many petals as you want. The cut you r ribbon and tuck the raw wdge under and tack into place. Turn over and your ribbon is done.

Ribbon Pincushion Step by Step Instructions

Today, I'm posting a set of instructions to make a pincushion. I am making this as I am going to enter it for a WI competition in the summer. So. as I was going to do it for this, I thought that I might as well do the instructions and blog it as well. Lots of tutorials available on the Craft Fairy Blog Being in posession of a huge choice of ribbons I really had no choice but to use them. All the ribbons that you see here are available from craftfairy.co.uk

Here is the finished cushion. I know that it is really girly and over the top kitch but who cares. I thought that if I was going to go for a domestic goddess kind of thing I might as well go over the top. 1950's at least. I even feel a frilly apron coming on. Perhaps not today though.

So. if you want to make something like this you will need to do some ribbon weaving first. This really is a good way to use up your scraps too as it only requires short lengths. the sort that are usually too short to be used for anything else.

Cut yourself a piece of fuisable interfacing about 2cm larger than the finished size of the pinchshion. E.g. if your pinchshion is to be 50cm then cut your square 12cm. I used a lightweight interfacing as I wanted the finished cushion to be soft not stiff.

Put the interfacing on the ironing board, fuisable side up. If your don't do it this way your will fuse it to the board. Lay your ribbons out in a pattern and pin to the ironing board over the interfacing.

Cut your lengths of ribbon so that they extend beyond the size of the backing fabric. You will trim them later so don't worry about being too precise. I used a mixture of widths and patterns but to keep the design looking good I used only three harmonizing colours. Pink, blue and a touch of white in the pattern. Lay them vertically over the interfacing.

Now weave the same pattern of ribbon in the horizontal direction as shown.

You should end up with what you see below. Push the ribbons together so that there are no gaps showing and pin in place. You will need to do this or the ribbon will move when you iron it.

Cover the ribbon weaving with a cloth and press with the iron. Do not use steam. This will create enough adhesion to allow you to flip the ribbon weave over and then press again to cause a better adhesion and create your fabric. See below. Now, flip the fabric over, and iron from the back. This will ensure that the ribbons stick to the interfacing really well.

Now, take a length of sewing thread with a knot in one side and sew a running stitch along one edge of the ribbon very close to the edge. When you have reached the end pull the thread to gather it to approximately the length of your 4 sides combined. 40 cm in my case. Secure the end of the thread.

Pin to the right side of the edge of the ribbon fabric. Tack the ribbon in place very near the edge. You will not reallt have a seam allowance on the ribbon. No need to have one really as the ribbon has a sewn edge should not frey. There will be a seam allowance on the ribbon fabric though.

Cut a piece of backing fabric that is the same size as the interfacing. I used a little broiderie anglais that I had in my scraps basket. With right sides together and the ribbon in the middle like a sandwich sew around three sided of the pincushion. I did this by hand as it really is too fiddly to even contemplate sewing on the machine.

When you have done this turn the pincushion around to the right side and fill with kapok or any other stuffing that you have. I had some left over from goodness knows when. Sew the last side into place from the back of the cushion and you have done.

Colored Butterfly On B&W Photo...

After doing my layout with this photo technique, I thought I would do a tutorial on one of the butterfly photos from my layout yesterday... for some this may not be new... but for others, it may be something you've wanted to do but didn't know how... I think it will surprise you how simple this really is to do with your photos.

I will be using Photoshop... on a mac. But most of these simple principles will apply to whatever photo-editing application you may be using...

1. Once your photo is open, make a duplicate of this layer.

2. Rename it to whatever you'd like... I named mine is Black&White copy.

3. Go to Image, then Adjustments, then to Black & White to make this layer Black &White.

4. A window will come up for you to adjust your photo... lighter or darker in black&white... most times I leave this on the default settings... if I do adjust anything it is the reds and magenta... to make the photo lighter or darker... play around with this for making your photo darker of lighter.

5. Enlarge the area you want to have the color on.

6. On your Black&White layer... choose your Eraser Tool. Now adjust your Eraser Tool to size.
For large area choose a large eraser... for small area... choose a small eraser.
I always like to erase large parts first with a large eraser... then adjust the eraser for the detailed areas.
Now erase your image on the Black&White Copy layer.

7. After you've erased the large parts of your image... now adjust your Eraser Tool to a smaller size for the more detailed areas... the edge of the image or like mine the legs and antennas...
now erase the small areas.

8. And you're done!!! Easy right?

9. Now... SAVE this file as a layer document (.psd), just in case you want to go back and make more adjustments. I save mine as the file name + a number, but you can save it as anything you want.

10. Save your file again as a .jpg, this will flatten the layers for you and saving the .psd file.
NOW this saved .jpg file is what you will print....

Tissue Paper Blooms... Redo... Photos fixed!!!

Don't know what happened to my Tissue Paper Blooms tutorial post... but here it is again... thanks for letting me know the photos weren't coming through.... soooo let's try this post again shall we...

While I was helping out in my daughters class with tissue paper... I was thinking what a great material to make a flower bloom for card and my scrapbooking. So I came home and started playing around with tissue paper... and here's what I came up with. For this flower I used:

1. 3 different shades of Tissue Paper.

2. Round objects (or templates) for 4 circle sizes.

3. A pencil.

4. A pair of scissors.

5. Glue dots.

6. Flower Centers - I used Pearl stickers

Making 4 different size circles. Trace your circles onto several layers of tissue paper...

Cut out your circles.

Use one circle from the 4 different size circles. Layer the circles... change colors for each layer
(I started & ended with the same color). Then place glue dots on the backs of the top 3 layers.

With glue dot tissue paper stacks... put on the center of your bloom.

Crinkle the tissue paper.

Start to open, then smash it up some more... the more crinkles the better.

Open up and fluff up each layer, until it exactly as you want your bloom.

And here's one of my bloom on a card. Enjoy!

Quick and easy vintage trinket box

Hi Sarah here from sarahwrightdesigns.blogspot.com. I thought you might like this quick and easy tutorial that will transform a plain box blank into a vintage style box.
All you need is

Silver card
Black acrylic paint
old paintbrush
emboss folder and die cutting machine ( I used Sizzix Big Shot)
Sizzix dies, flowers and leaves
Kitchen roll or cotton wool
Craft mat ( optional to paint on )


Start of with a box blank Cut strips of silver card to fit sides of box Emboss strips of card with an embossing folder

Paint over card with black acrylic paint

Wipe of acrylic paint with kitchen roll or cotton wool. some of the paint will remain in the recessed parts of the embossed image

Stick pieces of card to box sides

Paint lid of box with Acrylic paint

Add the flowers and leaves that you have made, using the same process

Your box is now complete

Easy Paper Flower Tutorial

I had made this card for the design team I'm on and wanted to share a tutorial for the flower I made per your request! Thank you for all the wonderful comments on my other post with the card. It's so easy!

I've seen many of these flowers made using a brad in the middle to hold it together. I wanted to do something different with ribbon so here's what I came up with:

You will need some old dictionary pages or pages from an old book. I use pages from a huge dictionary I bought at a thrift store. It has the thinner, lighter pages than an ordinary book. I like the weight of those pages because they are easier to crimp and crinkle. You also need some ribbon, a stapler and a scallop punch.

Punch out six scallop circles.

Stack your scallops together and lay your ribbon across them in the middle. Staple the ribbon to the scallops.

Tie a knot in the ribbon, the staple holds it in place.

Trim the edges of your ribbon.

Crinkle and fluff up each scallop until it's as fluffy as you like.
Enjoy!

Punched Flower Tutorial

Hi! I'm so happy today because I had a lot of comments about my mini flowers bouquet. I love to work with little things and that is a challenge for me. For this one I used:

1. Martha Stewart punches - Hydrengia (25 pcs aprox., small size) and maple leave (5 pcs)

2. Marvy 1" circle punch (2 pcs)

3. stylus or paint brush

4. glue

5. twizzers

6. gel pen or any kind of paint(stickles, markers, chalk, etc.)

Take one circle and make small cuts around it, save the other for final step.

Put circle in a foam base and with your stylus make circular motions to end with a semi-circle and do the same with the mini flowers.
Now, use your favorite glue and twizzers to attach the flower starting with the base or bottom of the semi-circle.

Continue gluing the flower around the circle and finish at the top.
Glue 5 leaves to the second circle and make small dots in the center of each flower with gel pen .
Glue flowers to the leave base.This is the result. Isn't a cutie.

Ideas for Papermania Trellis cards and stamps

Some times when we buy aperture cards or mini stamps we sometimes draw a blank as to how to use them. Here is a short video giving you some ideas of what to do with aperture card blanks. In this case I have used the new Trellis cards by Papermania. I have also used the new Hanovarian stamps that are by Papermania also.

Create your own foam stamps

Distress Inks video tutorial

Ok so i wanted to show you this free form lattice card ... this is first what i originally wanted to show you but got side stacked on the others. I found this video here which inspired this card in the first place and all the other ideas flowed from then. This card was embossed with the new folder from stampin up called Elegant lines Using the Labels 4 set from spellbinders nestibilities for the window(second largest die). Punches used were the 5 petal flower and the spring bouquet from stampin up with Bashful Blue ink sponged around the window and on all the flowers petals. The small flowers have tiny half pearls and larger ones have a blue button with larger half pearls in the center. You can see more of my lattice style cards on

Paper Pennant - How to

Here you have an easy way to cut the triangles out of patterned paper.

1. Grab some patterned papers and a piece of squared paper, more or less the same length as the papers

2. Fold the squared paper and put some marks as a guide to cut the triangles.
I set mine 8 squares width and 9 squares height

3. Fold the patterned papers

4. And make a sandwich with the folded squared paper

4. Now cut the triangle out, following the marks

5. Form a line with all the triangles

6. And glue them around a string or ribbon

Ready to use in a project.

Hi all, Happy spring! :) its a beautiful day out today Ive been for my walk and there's not a cloud in the sky! God has blessed us this week in so many ways but in particular with an understanding of a deeper faith in Him which i know will see us through future hardships in life, its like the ultimate light bulb has gone on especially for me and i know i can shine that back to my family and friends :)
I had a really nice day yesterday creating these Hydrangea flowers how gorgeous did the turn out! they look just like the ones in our back garden! and they are soooo easy to make. I use the heart punch from stampin up for the flowers and the leaves and glued a half pear in the centers. Ive coloured them with certainly celery in the center and bashful blue on the outsides.

Here is another version of the same flower but with a larger 1/2" circle center. I also use the 2 step bird punch wing and branch for the leaves in this spray of flowers and the wide oval to add some curly vines. Glitter to finish!

And don't these look great with just a single flower on the card!

Recycled Vinyl Record - Photo Frame

Don't you love the nostalgia of old vinyl records? There are still many of those old darlings in my possession, but sometimes they're scratched. So I give them a second life as a piece of decoration (still very experimental at times, hee hee). Here's my first attempt to create a round photo frame, and that's how it works:

You need...

Vinyl record

Jigsaw

white pen

Embellishments - here: little wooden butterflies, old sheet music

hot glue gun

picture frame hanger

a nice photo

Let the record have its very last turn on your record player. Take a pen which is visible on black, and hold it onto your record approximately 2.5 inches from the border. You'll get a perfect circle.

Now cut along the line with a jigsaw or scroll saw. It doesn't matter where you start cutting, even if it severs the frame. You can hide the cut later on.

If the frame got a rough edge like mine did, sand it with a Dremel or simply a cutter knife.

The center part of the record can be turned into a heart - or any other shape you like.

I took old music sheets and tore them into strips. I inked the edges for a vintage look. Now you can add a strip of double-sided tape on the back ...

... and fold the note strips around the frame and press them on the tape.

For the piano, paint a section of the inner record part white. I used a white pen, but I guess white spray would have looked more even. Let it dry and cut it into slightly wedge-shaped pieces. I made the black keys by eye measure.

Now arrange your decorative elements on your vinyl frame. When it looks good to you, attach them with hot glue. Print a photo you like, trim it to the size of your frame and tape it to the back. Attach a picture frame hanger - and you're done!

You can use any embellishment you like, so you're not limited to this music-themed version. How about old book pages and chipboard letters as embellishments? Or something glittery for little girls? I'd really like to see what you come up with :)

It shows how versatile this program is. I use it for scrapbooking, cardmaking, business cards and also decoupage amongst other things!

Gift Bag Making

Today the lovely Arina from Arina's Card Corner has accepted to share with us her wonderful "Gift Bag Making Tutorial". Here's how it goes:

Hi everyone here I am again with a post I saw yesterday on you tube a movie about how a bag can make an envelope.

So I thought to myself I'll also try to make an attempt to make the end I made two.

I have for you like a workshop, I explain step by step with pictures how to make the bag.
'm Curious what you think.

Workshop:
What you need an envelope, ribbon, designer paper, 2 brads, colored and afdrukjes.

Step 1: First glue the envelope shut, and then cut out of the sides about half an inch off.

Step 2:

then go on creasing 1.9 cm on both sides and the bottom is 2.5 cm. Then you fold the crease lines here, but does so as well so you get a tight fold.

Step 3: then go on top briefly with a cartel scissors cut a piece off so you get a nice edge.

Step 4: Then you just run your hand into the bag and fold the crease lines on the sides and bottom and that should it look like.

Step 5: then make 2 holes on the sides of the ribbon, and then create the ribbon on your bag.

Step 6: Then decorate the front and back with the design paper, if you did go down the bottom flap so they stick.

And after you tie the ribbon around it, so the base of your bag ready and you can further decorate it yourself.

And below you see two of my creation programs I made.

1 it was made for a mother of a friend who is sick hyves.

You can do everything in, I've even made matching cards with which you have money, gift etc can put.

How I made my Apple :)

Hi All Friends...it is nice I can writing in here again....

Today I have a tutorial how I made my Apple for my card.

First I try to found my stash red and green cardstock from my "stash Paper" box :)

Found it and I collected my "Apple" and "Leaf" Hand Puncher together from the drawer :)

Now I draw the APPLE with red copic and the leaf with my normal green Pen (also the stem) oops so sorry not so great Pict...I mean I am not so good in Drawing :) but at least you can see this is an Apple :)

Punched so many little Apple and little Leaf and collect it, also made a Stem for the Apple with brown paper.

Then I adhere all the LITTLE Apple to the BIG Apple and the LITTLE Leaf to the BIG Leaf. Oops so sorry again not so nice Pict...(no sunshine today :( )

Also this is the whole Apple I have finished

Circle Slide Book Album

Mary Giemza is a very talented cardmaker... and she has gladly accepted to share with us this lovely tutorial... a Circle Slide Book Album.

Here's how it is done:

I’ve been really excited to share this photo album I made for my daughter who recently gave birth to the most beautiful little baby girl ~ Quinn (a/k/a Quinney poo)!

It’s not a normal album either ~ each page has a mini hidden slide-out photo page. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for an album keepsake for the whole family. (Please keep in mind, I’m a card girl (My Cardz) and this is my FIRST attempt at scrapbooking! Although, I do think I have discovered a NEW hobby!!)

Here’s how the “hidden” photo is revealed . . . (it slides out!)

And a closeup view . . .

Pretty cool, huh?  These are photos of my VERY pregnant daughter from just a few weeks ago!

In trying to not overwhelm you, I won’t show each and every photo from the album, since there are a total of six pages, PLUS six hidden photos.     I did, however, put together a wee-little slide show of the entire album which can be found at the end of this post!    Yep, just a proud grandma!

I just LOVE this type of album, I think it would make a perfect gift for Christmas, birthdays, new babies!        The album is being sold over at I Brake For Stamps.

I have a few photos to show you how super easy it is to put together.   This is what you will receive in your package . . .

It may look confusing at first, but believe me ~ if I can do it — anyone can! Your first step is to take one of the black chipboard spacers and a black chipboard circle . . .

and glue them together . . . always being sure to line up the punched holes.

You then peel off the blue protective film from one of the clear pull outs . . .

and glue two black chipboard pull tabs to the front and back of the square end. (I’ve left the film on so you could see it a little easier in this photo.)

Lay this tabbed insert inside your glued circle as shown below . . .

and glue a second chipboard circle on top ~ always being sure to line up the punched holes.

That’s it! (Of course, you have two more to put together.) The album pages measure 8 1/2 inches, so I cut out all of my papers/cardstock . . .

and used one of the chipboard pull tabs as a guide to cut this section to adhere to the album.

Since I was using double-sided papers, I marked the back of each piece so I would know which side I had planned to use.

And now the REAL fun begins! Adding your photos and embellishments. I decided to cover the clear plastic pull outs with DP also, which was not necessary – if you decide to do this, one little suggestion I have to make your life a little easier, cut and measure these BEFORE you glue your album together! Live and learn! If you do purchase one and run into ANY problems, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll try to help.

Lottery Ticket Holder Tutorial

Hi everyone.
Here is a lottery ticket holder tutorial.

I've not included any measurements as they can vary depending on the type of ticket but they are really easy to adapt - maybe try a scratch card holder?

For this lottery ticket holder I'm using Taken with Teal for the base, Really Rust and Old Olive card with Old Olive Satin ribbon .

I roughly measured my lottery ticket and cut my Taken with Teal card slightly bigger and scored it in the centre.

For example, if my ticket measured 3" x 5" then I would cut my card to 6 1/2" x 5 1/4" and score at 3 1/4" but it's probably easier to just eyeball it.

I cut down my Really Rust piece the same width as the holder (when closed) and about 2 1/2" high.

Place your ribbon in the centre of this piece and make small tick marks on either side of your ribbon towards the right hand side of the card.

I then took my craft knife and ruler to cut a small slit in between the tick marks.

Then slide your ribbon from the back to the front through the slit like shown below.

Wrap the rest of your ribbon around the closed holder and lay the Really Rust card onto the base to ensure you're happy with the position before sticking it down.

Once you've got your placement, apply adhesive to the back of the Really Rust piece but not over the ribbon.

It should then look like this (below) with your ribbon running in between the two layers -it should be free to slide without getting caught.

Line up the ends of your ribbon to the right hand side of your holder.

On the back, run a strip of adhesive where your ribbon will lie and stick it down.

Open up your holder and line up the ticket so there is an even border that runs around it.

Make small tick marks on the top and side as shown below.

Again using a craft knife and ruler, line up the two tick marks and make a diagonal cut. Do this to the top right and the bottom right hand corners.

You can then rub out your tick marks.

Slip the corner of the ticket into these slits and your ticket will hold in place.

Next I closed the holder and tied my ribbon so that I was happy with it.

I try to leave the 'tails' a little longer than normal so that when the recipient opens it, they can close it again afterwards.

I only decided later to add a sentiment to the bottom part of the Really Rust card but using the Stamp-a-ma-jig made this really easy.

I just lined it up where I wanted the sentiment to go and stamped in Really Rust ink.

I used my A Rose is a Rose stamp set to stamp and cut out some images in coordinating inks.

For the rose I inked it up with Really Rust, stamped it first onto some scrap paper then onto some Whisper White card to get a weaker colour. Then I stamped the detailed image 'full strength' on top.

The leaves are done in the same way using Old Olive ink.

And it's really that easy, once you've made one you'll be away!

ABC-Album

Isn’t it cute? I made this album as a present for our cat sitter who’s totally obsessed with our cat. But it works with other subjects as well – kids, parents, partners, travel destinations… whatever you like. You combine photos and attributes from A to Z. For example: A like Adorable, B like Beautiful, C like Chaotic.

I liked it so much that I made the same album for myself. If you want the pictures to be larger, just go to my original post on my website.

You’ll need 14 coasters. The shape doesn’t matter, square or round will do as well. They’ll be bound together with 2 album rings. I don’t have photos of the making-of itself, but the images below are quite self-explanatory.

Additional materials:

Pretty Paper (here: Basic Grey)

Glue

Scissors

Hole Punch

Stamp Pads

ABC Stamps

26 Photos (3×4cm)

1 Eraser, cut to the photos’ size

alternatively a piece of craft foam

Letter Stickers

Rub-ons

Pretty Ribbons

Embellishments

At first you cover the coasters with paper. Put glue on one side first and attach it to the paper, let dry and trim the paper. Then do the same with the reverse side. As a glue mat, you can take an old magazine, like shown here. Punch two holes into each paper-covered coaster.

As you can see, I put the name “Joschka” (my cat’s name) on the front with rub-ons. The chipboard J is covered with white embossing powder. The little metal charms and the “Life Happens”*-tag are attached with Tacky Tape. The paper “a-z”-ribbon is attached with an eyelet.

Write down a list from A to Z and choose images and attributes. This prevents you from being confused with all the letters later on. Print out the images in a small size, mine are 3×4cm. On the back of the title coaster, attach the letter A (a sticker or a cut-out, whatever you like). Write the attribute with letter stamps*. Take your eraser as a stamp and stamp a frame for your photo which you’ll attach slightly slanted.

Use the same pattern for finishing all pages.

My cat doesn’t like to travel. So I turned the German word “reiselustig” (= fond of traveling) into “reise-UN-lustig” (=NOT fond of traveling) by highlighting the syllable with the help of dymo tape.

It doesn’t have to be the attribute’s first letter

When you’re done: Congrats! Bind the coasters together with the rings. Knot pieces of pretty ribbon around the rings (you might want to fix the knots with a drop of glue).

How I made my Tulips

Hi Everybody this is the first time I will post something in here.... I'm very very excited :)

Today I want to show you how I made my Tulips :

1. First Punch many of EGG shape with Egg Puncher . I used 2 different Collor of Yellow Paper on this Photo.

2. Cutted the Darkest color until nearly the end of the edge but dont cut it all please :) then put the cutted Egg on the other yellow Egg. I used the stick glue in here.

3. Then with fluid white glue, I did glue the Stem.

4. This is my Tulips with the stem, do it again for the next tulip :)

Turning a Tin into a cute little Gifty!!

Hi Again!! Today I wanted to show you how to easily turn a tin into something a little bit more! =:O)

You'll Need:
a Tin, Sticky Tape, Glitter, Scrapbook paper, a small embellishment and Ribbon!

First: Run your Sticky Tape along the top rim of the tin:

Then pour your glitter all over the Sticky Tape and brush off any extra!

Measure the space on the bottom half of the tin and cut a scrapbook strip of paper to fit all the way around. Using your Sticky tape again, adhere to the tin.

Now fill with something....I used M&Ms...but you could put anything in there...Jewelry, hair clips, a love note! Then tie a ribbon around it and put your small embellishment on top...Viola....a cute little dressed up tin...Perfect for gift giving!

Pretty Vintage Paper Flower Posies.....

Hi Everybody!!! I'm very excited to post here for the first time!!!

I'd like to show you how to make these vintage paper flower posies...

I'm sure you've seen these paper posies around but I wanted to show you how I make them! While they take a little time to create, they are so worth the effort!!

To start...get your supplies ready, you'll need: Glitter and a color spray in a complementary color, scallop punch, vintage paper or print, glue, brads, flower centers and leaves....after that...you're ready to go...

Start by punching out lots of scallops circles....you can use, sheet music, children's stories, dictionary pages...anything really...

Then spray your paper to give it a little color and sparkle and wait until dry!

Then put glue on the edges....I pierce mine and do several at a time....and spoon your yummy glitter over the glue!

Here is another look at the glue all glittered up....pretty huh?!

Then, stack 5 or more of your glittered circles on top of each other and stick a brad in the center....almost done.....

Now crumple each layer towards the center where the brad is...do each layer individually....

Finally, add your decorative centers and leaves, if you want them...and viola...pretty paper posies for your projects!! You can make them in different colors to match your project too!! Fun, Fun, Fun!

A Tent Card Tutorial

Really you can use any size squares, but here I have used two 6x6'' and a 4x6''.
Using a scoreboard score the 4x6 every inch as shown. This will create the bottom of the card.
For the front panel I used my largest blossom nestie die to make the aperture,then cut again with a smaller blossom die.This is then to hang with a jump ring like so.
Carefully adhere to the previously prefolded card as in the picture to the front panel.I find it best to use doublesided tape for this. Then repeat for the back panel.
When both bottoms are attached to the prefolded base ,then attach at the top and it should look something like this.
I actually find it easier to decorate before I attach it together.

Part 2 of tutorial: Promarkers on shrink plastic

Here is the second part of a 2 part tutorial I recently posted on my blog and on Passion for Promarkers weekend workshop

Digital image on Shrink plastic and coloured with Promarkers.

1. I have also printed the image directly on to Shrink plastic. Be careful when handling this though as the ink stays wet.

2. Colour in the image taking care not to touch the print as it will smudge. Your colouring with Promarkers doesn't have to be good here! Don't use very dark colours as the colours you use intensify when the image is shrunk. Punch a hole in the Shrink plastic if you wish to attach it to your project with a brad or to thread ribbon through.

3. Finally shrink it with a Heat gun. You now have a small "tile" to attach to your project

A Butterfly Easel Tutorial

I keep being asked how I made my Butterfly easel card,so I thought here would be a great place to do so.
Firstly you need a butterfly template. Draw one on a single white card and then draw another on a pre-folded card like in the picture. Note that the top of the wings are slighty hanging over the fold as this is where he card will open.

Carefully cut out and fold in half like the picture below.This is going to be the easel panel which will hold the main butterfly which we decorate.
The single butterfly will then be attached to the easel panel, but only at the bottom half. Personally, I prefer to decorate it first then attach it to the panel

Then it should look something like this.

and decorate with papers,rubber stamps,flowers etc.

Here for the paper flowers I punched out three different sized blossom flowers,scrunched up and added embellishments for the centres.Then I distressed the edges used Victorian Velvet distress inks.

2 Step bird rose bud.

You'll need: 2 way glue pen, red and green card stock, 2 step bird punch, post it notes.

You'll need to punch one whole punch in green and also one wing shape in red,

Using a post it note attach the green bird to the sticky edge so it makes it easier for you to slide the bird back into the punch,

slide the tail of the bird into the wing shape of the punch, you might like to lift the very tip of the tail out of the punch so you don't cut it off then use the punch to create a bud shape,

you'll be needing these three pieces that you have punched, the red wing the green branch and the green tail piece,

Using your 2 way glue pen stick the green tail on top of the red wing then layer this onto your green branch, now you have a tiny rose bud!

These roses look gorgeous if you use a sponge dauber to add some depth around the edges of the punched pieces.

Decoupage using a Digital image

Decoupage is still very popular and can be done easily with rubber stamps. You can also decoupage with Digital images. This tutorial will show you how to do it easily.
The image I have used is Whimsical Girl Heart Garden from Bee Crafty.

This is part 1 of a 2 part tutorial ( both parts can be done on their own though)

1. First I printed the image 4 times using Photo Printing Wizard onto good quality white cardstock ( about 250 gsm)

2. I then coloured one image with my Promarkers. My 2 main colours are Mango and Bright Green. This isn't necessary as this is the base image which will be layered but I think it gives a more professional look.

3. I then cut out the image, in this case using a Nestability die.

4. I have then coloured and cut out various parts of the image from the remaining 3 images.

5. Here is a close up of the cut out images.

6. If you don't have many Promarkers and want to use shading on your images you can go over your colouring with the same colour to deepen it. In this case I have gone over the Mango with the same Mango pen on the left side of the image. I have done the same with the Bright Green. This will give the shaded effect

7. I have layered the pieces on top of each other with foam pads.

8. Next I have used Glossy accents over the heart shape flowers and sprinkled tiny yellow accent beads. The Glossy accents is clear and will act as a glue to hold the beads in place.

And there you have a decoupaged image made from a digital image.

mini minialbum idea

I bough some Puma college pants. Puma products has this information thing were is size, prize and all kind of information. It was on my desk and I was going to throw it away when I got an idea. I do a minibook I mean real mini..:)

I just cover it with designer paper and I'm going to decorate it later and meaby but it into my bag as a keychain.

So here is my mini minialbum almost finished. I just trace all lines into designer paper and tape those down.

I used Cosmo Cricet Earth love collection papers for this project.

A Corsage from Paper Flowers

Recently, at Craft Fairy, I've taken delivery of a large number of fantastic paper flowers and they are too wonderful to leave untouched in boxes until they sell. So I've decided to put my floristry training into practice and show everyone how to use the flowers to make a corsge.

Set out what you need to start with:

On my table I had small yellow (it said yellow on the packet but they really are cream!) rose buds.

Small open tea roses in cream.

Medium open tea roses in fuchsia.

Large curly roses in Cream.

A couple of green hydrangea petals and
some tacky glue.

First of all I cut the green flower in four as seen below.

Then I layered the smaller roses as shown below. Start with the smallest flower at the top and gradually wor down to the largest of the three.

Now twist the stems together.

Add some glue to the base of the leaf .

Glue behind the flowers as seen below.

Repeat the same steps with flowers and leaves for the other side. Lay them on the table and cross over at the centre point.

Put the large rose in the centre and then twist the wires together at the back of the corsage so that they lie flat. At this point, this is what you'll end up with.

However, I decided that it looked a little empty in the middle so I glued some green petals behind the central flower and I was happy with the way that it looked.

Easter Fimo / polymer clay Rabbit Tutorial .

Now this post is about giving you the skills to make a simple Easter Rabbit.

Once you have had a practice you can then add more detail for one like Herbert ..

I wanted to show him and the set to you to show you what can be done just by

adding that little bit extra to your work .

Now Herbert has curled wired for his whiskers and is alot bigger than the one in the tutorial.

(you can always double the measurements for a bigger one !)

By making him a home , with a card to match has given him that extra special love

which makes a fimo Bunny into a treasured possesion.

Now for the basic bunny !

Easter Gift Tutorial . fimo /polymer clay .

Some bunny to love ......

How to........

you will need...

1 x block white fimo

small piece of coloured fimo or you can paint the decoration afterwards with acylic paint if

you dont have the second colour..

cocktail stick or brad/paper piecer

nice clean washed hands ! white fimo picks every little fleck up !

FOR THE BODY ..

Step 1 - cut two strips off a fimo block.

Soften these two strips in the hands and then roll it into a smooth ball.

Step 2 - Finger rolling ...

To create the chunky tear shape ..

Place one finger off centre of the ball and gently applying just alittle pressure roll back and forth - add another finger as it gets alittle longer , then another - this will give you an even body. Keep doing this until in measures approx - 4 1/2 cm - this is just guide for you .

it should now look alittle like this -

Step 3 - Now sit your body up

Using the pad of your index finger and thumb flatten the top point gently - this creates a neck and a step for the head to rest on .

FEET

Step 4 -cut another strip off the fimo block - cut this in half , then half again. - 2 are for the feet - save the other two pieces for the arms.

Step 5 - Just like before , soften the clay then roll into a ball and then a chunky tear shape ..Use the finger rolling technique as before , you may only need one or two fingers this time.

Now flatten the clay with the pad of your finger - rolling it on gently then off .

put the feet to one side now - we come back to them later...

Arms...

Step 6 .

Taking the two pieces of cut fimo left,
soften and roll each one separatly into
a ball , then into a sausage shape - use
the finger rolling technigue, roll gently and
evenly with hardly any pressure , the
rolling back and forth will lengthen it for you.

Put arms to one side - we come back later for them...

Head, Teeth and Ears

Step 7 ,
for his Head , cut 3/4 (approx) strip of fimo and
roll into a ball , then into a tear shape - Just like his feet.
Teeth

roll a small ball of fimo , flatten then

cut a tooth shape .
Ears ,
cut one strip off the fimo block, half it , then
half that half again . roll each small piece
of fimo into a ball and into a tear shape ,
just like the feet , but a bit longer.
Flatten using the pad of your finger.

The decoration...

Step 8 -

Mix some pink (or your chosen 2nd colour)
with alittle white fimo ...
roll 6 small balls and 2 larger ones , flatten and using the pad of your finger gently press
onto the feet .
Now , again using the pad of your finger and holding the back of the body gently press the feet onto the body ..

make two balls of even size for the cheeks

flatten gently .

(leave to one side for now)

roll two small balls of pink , and roll that into a
long tear shape ,flatten and press onto each ear.
Using your thumb , flatten the point slightly,
this helps with pressing onto the rabbits head.

make a small tear shape for the nose....

(leave to one side for now)

Roll a big ball ,into a chunky tear shape for the

egg... leave to one side .... now go wash your hands .. lol..

All done ? now on to

Step 9 - attaching in it all ..

you already have the feet attached..

Always use the pad of your

finger.

next attached the head ( point at top)

by holding the back of the body with one hand,
and gently pressing the head onto the "step"

on the neck. next do the same with the arms, notice

how i have bent them into
a slighty banana shape..

next attach the teeth ,

then the cheeks and nose,

Now the ears ... thickest part at the top be sure to have them close together so it sticks better, bend the ear if you wish .

Using a cocktail stick or a paper piecer , press into the fimo to make his eyes.

You may wish to roll some fimo for his eyebrows, but he looks good without too ! using a knife indent his whiskers and add 3 little holes with a cocktail stick too. Ive pushed a brad into his body for decoration also. You can keep the egg plain or decorate it , once done gently push it onto the front .... Now last but not least his bunny tail ... ive kept this last because its good to also use to help him be balanced ,, just roll a small ball of fimo and press it onto his bottom !

BAKING HIM .......

Bake on a plate /tile in the centre of the oven following the manufacters temperature on the packet .For 30 minutes. Please do look at the temperature on the packet - it will be very low to bake him, and some clays are different.

There you have it your Easter Rabbit !

Grungepaper Flower Tutorial

Hi everyone. My name is Sarah and this is my first contribution to Inspirational Tips, Techniques and Tutorials.

This is my tutorial for making Grungepaper flowers. Grungepapr is a thinner version of Grungeboard as used by Tim Holtz.

I bought the Grungepaper from Craft Obsessions. It is used by the amazing Tim Holtz who does a lot of altered art. I had the opportunity to watch the man in action at the Trade show at the NEC last year, courtesy of Hotshot crafts. Thank you Sarah. I had a great day there.
This paper is amazing if you haven't come across it yet. Don't mix it up with Grungeboard which is thicker. This paper wont tear or rip but you can cut it with scissors or use it in a Die cutting machine. I use Sizzix Big Shot.
You can also colour it with ink pads, distress inks, stamp on it, emboss it and shape it.

First though I must state that the actual flower tutorial is not my idea. I have merely taken it a step further. The original tutorial is by the amazing Michele Roos.

So now for the tutorial. There are quite a few pictures to help you through, but it is very easy and I am sure you will agree very affective.
1. The items you will need

2. Using Sizzix flowers die cut out 2 large and 4 small flowers. Draw a circle about the size of a 5p in the middle of each one.
3. I have distress inked both sides of the flowers with a lighter shade of green.
4. I then go around the edges with a darker shade, again on both sides.
5. Stamp whatever you wish onto the flowers. I stamp only on one side and I use Versafine ink. I have used a flourish stamp but a sentiment stamp would be nice too.
6. Cut each petal down to the circle you drew on it earlier.
7. Curl the petals. I use Joanna Sheen long tweezers, but you could use a cocktail stick, or pencil. the grungepaper shapes easily.

8.Turn the flowers over and do the same with the other side of the petal
9. Punch a hole in the center of each flower and layer them up as shown
10. Fix with a brad.

11. You could add Stickles glitter for mare sparkle.

12. You could also add a brooch fitting on the back so that you can wear you creation.

13. Why not attach it to a hat, handbag, pair of shoes or necklace.

So there it is. My first contribution to this amazing blog. What do you think?.
It doesn't take long to make. Putting on this tutorial took longer than making it!!!!

Ribbon Flowers

Hello everyone. I'm really flattered to be able to contribute to Inspirational Tips and Techniques and so for my first contribution I'd like to show you how to make a folded ribbon flower.

So above, is the finished flower and now I'm sure that you all want to see how I made it.

First you will need to assemble your ingredients:

On my table I had:
4 strips of hot pink satin swiss dot ribbon each measuring 15 cm.
A few buttons. I hadn't yet decided which ones to use. You will need one bigger than the other though.
Cotton
A needle. Use a sharp one.
Start your flower by putting some glue on one end of the ribbon:

Fold it to the centre add glue to the other end and fold that to the centre too. Your ribbon should overlap and form a loop that the glue holds together in the centre.

Once you've done this you can layer up the pieces as seen in the picture below and now you're almost ready to sew them together.

I played around with the buttons that I had on the table and I finally chose a pink and a green button as I liked the way that they looked.

You need to be aware that you are sewing a lot of layers of ribbon together so that's why you will need a sharp needle. I started by sewing just two pieces together to get the position right.

Now layer up the pieces and sew together. Add your buttons and sew together and your flower is ready to go...

Today I have my first attempt to a shadow around the image tutorial, I have gotten several e-mails regarding how I do this technique so here it goes...

The first thing I do is completely finish coloring my image, once that is done I choose my main colors for my shadow in this case it was V99,V95,V91 and my colorless blender(I always like to test my colors on a scrap paper first)

With my darkest color I outline my image not too much at a time that way my color doesn't dry (in this case I started with V99)

Then with my next darkest color I go over the out line of V99 blending a bit (in this case V95)

With my last color I go over both previous colors making my line a bit thicker (My last color was V91)

Finally I go over with with my colorless blender blending all 3 colors (This depends how much color you want to remove) evenly and acquiring the right shade, It's very easy and looks nice on the finished card. Box album tutorial

This tutorial shows you how to do box album. I think this is funny and easy album..:D enjoy..

You need:

4 sheet of paper (patterned paper or just carton)

corner rounder

pencil

papercutter/ guillotine

scoring tool

scissors

1. Choose 3 pattern paper or carton and cut them to right size You have two options

Bottom piece: 11" x 11" (12"x12")

second layer: 10" x 10" (11"x 11")

Third layer: 9" x 9" (10"x10")

You can choose eather one of them (depending how big you want your box to be),

but make sure that you do all pieces at the same category

11-10-9 or 12-11-10

2. Score (I give you all scoring measurements you have to choose your own depending which size you have chosen.)

12x12 score at 4" all sides

11x11 score at 3 3/4 all sides

10x10 score at 3 1/2 all sides

9x9 score at 3 1/4 all sides

3. Cut corner squares off as shown (do this for all 3 pieces)

4. round all corners

5.put sheets one on the other as shown and clue them down

(If you want to decorate you can do it before this or when box is finished)

Your box is now ready. Now you have to do the top piece

1. If you choose 12-11-10 size your top piece measure 8"x8"

If you choose 11-10-9 size your top piece measure 6 1/4"x6 1/4"

2. 8x8 score at 2" all sides
6 1/4x6 1/4 score at 1 1/4" all sides

3. You have to score also as shown

4. Don't cut anything off.

You just have to fold all scored lines and your top should look like this

5. glue corners in as shown

6. Your top should look like this now

Youhave finished box album and it should look like this.

You just have to decorate it if you haven't done it yet like I haven't :)

These little doily envelopes are one of my favorite Valentine things to do for my husband and daughter. Over the years I've used them for wedding gifts, baby and wedding showers, put them on cards, scrapbook layouts and on one of my favorite projects my Valentine Window... Circular Easel.

I really love easel cards and they are so easy to do. You can make them in all shapes and sizes, but it is easier when they are symmetrical.I keep being asked how ive done the scalloped flower edge and no it isnt a Spellbinder Die.

1.To start with you need two circle cards.These are readily available now,if not they are easy to make. One is for the easel base and panel and the other needs to be cut in half as we only need half of it,which will make the front of the card. We also need a 2" scalloped circle punch

2.Fold one of the circles in half towards the fold.This is going to be the Easel panel.

3.The single circle which is going to be the face of the card, can be stuck to the panel ,though I actually prefer to decorate first and do this last,hence inking everything else up!! Which ever you prefer.
4.For the scalloped edge punch out 3 0r 4 and cut in half, depending on how big your easel circle is going to be and ink the edges.
5.Cut out a smaller circle(only about half an inch smaller than the circle front)and glue around the edges
6.Glue onto larger circle and decorate to taste
Hope that was easy enough for you to follow.There are more circular easels on my blog. Would love to see what you create.

Paper flower tutorial

You will need:

Scissors

Pen

2 colours of ink

text stamp

piercing tool

stamen look a likes

1. Draw and cut 4 different size of circles

2. Stamp with text stamp all 4 circles. Use darker color here. Like this.

3. color all circles with lighter ink and sponge the edges

4. wrinkle all circles and open them

5. take darker ink and dab it on to the wrinkled paper

6. Pierce hole in the center of all 4 circles

7. Take those stamen look a likes and wrap them as shown

(or if you have different ones, try to do it a look a like)

8. Finally just string those circles through as shown

You have a beautiful finished flower

Punches Border Strip Flower Tutorial

Materials you will need:

12x1 strip of dsp (cardstock would work, but it's better with dsp)
sticky strip
1 3/8" punch
scallop trim punch (or any other border punch)
buttons late ( or other buttons or large brads)
linen thread
paper crimper
scrap cs to punch the circle

1. Punch your 12" x 1" dsp strip with the border punch, only on one side.2. Run it through the crimper 4-5 times, each time flattening the folds. Don't flatten them the last time you run the strip through the crimper.

3. Punch a 1 3/8" circle and cover it with sticky strip. I was out of sticky strip so I used artist tape from the art supply store.

4. Start adhering the strip around the circle making little pleats.

5. After you have finished one layer continue to the second one. My ends met at same point, so I didn't need to cut the strip. But you can finish where ever you would like and cut it there.

6. I used chocolate chip button and made a bow using the linen thread. Added a dimensional and adhered it to the middle of the flower. And there you have it. You can use it on a card, scrapbook page etc.

Easy Envelope box for Easel / bulky 6 x 6 cards

I love making these Easel cards , but its so difficult to find an envelope to fit them , so i thought i would share how i make my boxes for them and maybe give you some ideas to decorate them or match them up with your cards.

I love the faux leather tabs ... these where made form thick cardstock , embossed with a cuttlebug folder and then i used a nestibility for the tab shape. To get them looking slightly worn i brushed over it lightly with a cream ink .

The flowers were inked on the petal edges and some were coloured using copics.

Image was also coloured with copics.

Box Tutorial to fit bulky 6 x 6 cards .

This is a very easy tutorial , and once you get the hang of them you will be churning them out!

Now ive done this in cm - as doing it in inches i find going into 16ths and 8ths just confusing !

So ive made it as simple as possible.

I used linen cardstock from the Paper mill for mine.

Step 1

Cut your cardstock 20 cm x 20 cm - you will need two of these.

Step 2

Using only one of your 20cm x 20cm cardstock

Score your card at 2cm and 18 cm - make sure your right on the measurement line.. Turn your cardstock round and do the same on the otherside , so you now have the same as in the picture.

Step 3

Cut up one side of each corner , then fold all your score lines on your side panels. Attach doublesided tape to each end square and fold inside the folded end panels. It should now look box shaped.

step 4

Using the 2nd piece of 20cm x 20cm cardstock , score at 1mm under 2cm and 1mm over 18cm .. turn the cardstock and do the same to the other side. This creates an extra 4mm around the score line to fit over the bottom box.

Cut up each corner , as before .

Step 5.

Before folding and attaching sides , use a circle punch to punch out half a circle on two opposite sides - this helps to lift the lid off the box

Decorate the front of the box before folding and glueing the sides.

Easy advent calendar & a little freebie

It's still much too warm in Germany, but Christmas time is approaching quickly. This year, I want to give selfmade advent calendars filled with stories, recipes, and poems to some very special people. The basis for each calendar is a simple 12x12 sheet of scrapbooking paper glued to a 12x12 piece of sturdy cardboard.

Step 1: The numbers
You can either stamp the numbers like I did into the circles of this beautiful paper...

...or you can glue them on. I used a 3/4 inch circle punch to create numbers in matching colors. If you like, you can download my numbers-in-circles design, just print and punch (3 color schemes on one sheet). Click here to download

Step 2: The holes
Beneath the numbers, I used my crop-a-dile to punch small holes through the calendar. If you don't have a crop-a-dile, you can use an eyelet tool or a hole punch out of daddy's toolbox. Punch two extra holes in the upper left and right corner, so the calendar can be hung to the wall.

Step 3: The gifts
That was a load of work... I chose 24 short stories, poems, recipes etc. and printed them on high quality paper. I folded and/or rolled the sheets, tied them to a pretty ribbon and threaded the ribbons through the calendars' holes. A square knot on the back - that's it. I used a small IKEA Allen wrench to push the ribbons through the holes. If you give the calendar to a couple, you can use two different ribbon colors for them to take turns in opening the gifts.

Step 4: Embellishments
You can embellish your calendar(s) as you wish. The only embellishments I used was a little snowflake mirror which I tinted with Adirondack inks to match the paper's colors:

Christmas Ornaments from CDs

Some ladies were asking how I made the CD Ornament in one of my blog posts, so I decided to make a tutorial to share with all of you.
You will need:
~an old CD
~patterned paper
~sandpaper or file
~glue
~ribbon
~materials to decorate the CD

1.Using the CD as a template, cut out 2 circles with the patterned paper.

2. Sand over the top of the CD so that the patterned paper will stick to it better. Glue on one piece of the patterned paper to the CD.

3.Cut some ribbon into 2 inch strips. Now comes the bit of a tedious part. You will need to do a few pieces of ribbon at a time and glue them to the CD.

4. Put a dab of glue on the end of a pice of ribbon.
5. Fold the piece over and glue together.They will look like this.6. My other scrapbook supplies helped me out! What darlings! I made a few at a time and put the pieces under something for the glue to set a bit. If you use a hot glue gun, then the process will go faster :O)

7. Then put a line of glue on a section of the BACK of the CD and start gluing the pieces down. It will look like this on the FRONT of the CD.And here's my trusty stapler sitting on a few that were glued down to help them set and stay put!!
This is what it will look like on the BACK when all the pieces are glued down. If you get to the end and there's not quite enough for another piece of ribbon, either move some around a little to make it fit OR move them apart to fill in the gap. Depends on the amount of space you have left.
And here's the front.
8. Cut another strip of ribbon and loop it and stick it down as well. Then take the 2nd circle you cut and glue it down to the back of the CD.

I received the cute digital image from Ildo Co. - SNOPALS ! I'm guest design team member there this month. Isn't it adorable! I think this image would be great as an "Our 1st Christmas Together". That could be written on the back of the ornament on a tag, maybe.
